Meditation is key to quieting your mind. Many people are under the misconception that you have to have a quiet mind in order to meditate, however, a regular practice of meditation will naturally quiet your mind.

If you have tried to meditate or are in the beginning of your meditation practice, you may feel it is challenging to "shut the faucet off". Well, first realize that with continued practice it gets easier to quiet the mind. This is due to the fact that you are building brain neurons that will support this transition. Meditating on a benchMeditating with a bench is a great way to hold a meditation pose longer when you are doing the kneeling position. The kneeling position is great for those who find it challenging to do a normal seated meditation pose such as the half-lotus or crossed-legged position.

Do know that it may not be the best pose for you, if you are experiencing problems with your knees. You may want to consider meditating in a chair or doing a moving meditation is this is the case for you.

How do I quiet mind during meditation?Quieting your mind during meditation is simply a matter of practice, practice, practice. When you start to meditate, you begin to notice the abundance of thoughts that are roaming around in your head. That is part of the process. Just keep going. The more you meditate, the more you train your mind to focus. In other words, you build more neural connections to help you focus. You also break old neural connections of your old habit of a constant chattering mind.

Meditation Tips - Warmup before Meditating

While doing a meditation for anxiety or stress relief, it can be challenging to maintain a relaxing posture when your joints, muscles and body are stiff. When you are uncomfortable, your mind tends to focus on being uncomfortable or you wind up shortening your meditation practice. As a result, whether you are doing a sitting meditation or a moving meditation, warming up your body, joints and muscles is a great way to relax beforehand. It allows your muscles and joints to loosen, blood flow to increase and more oxygen to circulate through your body and brain. Warming up will

jade-mala-beads-for-meditation Meditation TipsMany traditions have a form of prayer bead. Christians utilize rosaries, dhikr are used in Islam, and malas are used by Buddhists and Hindus. The word “mala” is Sanskrit and means “garland.” Malas often contain 108 beads, as 108 is often seen as a sacred number. There are many reasons for this, from the Buddhist belief in 108 feelings to the Hindu belief in the 108 Mukhya Shivaganas. Malas are made out of seeds, wood, glass, and gemstone.

music_note_resize Meditation TipsUsing music during meditation for stress and anxiety is a personal choice. I personally find that using music during meditation can be very soothing and calming. It can even help to focus me at times. There are times, however, that I choose to meditate without music. Sometimes, I feel that the music is a distraction. It really depends on my level of consciousness at the time I go to meditate.

The type of music that I use is also different depending on my current vibrational level, i.e. mood. If I feel I need to be uplifted, then I listen

Quick Meditation Tip

Meditation RoomMeditation can occur anywhere. For instance, you can meditate while washing dishes. You can be so focused on feeling the hand sensations that occur while washing dishes that you are actually practicing a form of mindfulness meditation. Typically when people are asking this question though, they usually have a vision of a quiet, secluded space in which to do a seated meditation. For some people, this may be the best way to start a formal meditation practice. If this is the case for you, then it would be a good idea to pick a quiet, secluded place

Finding a good meditation instructor

If you are in need of guidance in whatever stage of development you are in, find a good teacher. A good teacher will lead you to the door but will ask you to walk through it. Now what does that mean in practical terms? As a meditation instructor, I can give you the tools for learning to meditate but I cannot tell you what you will experience for I have learned and truly believe that everyone's experience will be different. This is what makes meditation seem like a mystery to most. Most want to know in advance what to

How do I find time to Meditate

If you really want to do something, you'll find a way. If you don't, you'll find an excuse. Jim Rohn

This may be cliche, however, if you really want to do it, you will do it. Life is about choices. Now having said this, let me give you a hand with making the choice to meditate. When making decisions, you have to consider the pros and cons of it. Well, meditation has many pros. For this qigong exercise, we will place our attention on the shoulder, neck and upper back area. So many individuals hold tension in this area. With this qigong exercise, you will be relaxing into the area and thereby opening up your energetic channels. When you open your channels, you increase the flow of healing energy to that area. In qigong, the intention is to focus on the coordinated movement with your breath in a relaxed manner.

Meditation TipIn my opinion, there is no right way to meditate because meditation is a personal inward journey. What I mean by this is that as you practice meditation, you begin to notice there are certain aspects that will make it easier for you to practice it. For instance, sitting erect with a relaxed spine, makes a sitting meditation easier to do. If you started practicing a sitting meditation with your spine tense, then it is more challenging to do. Having said this, you should "come as you are" for a meditation session. If your back is tense, or you tend

If you are falling asleep during meditation, then there are several things you can do to prevent it.  Below are a list of ideas to try that should help you meditate properly:

  1. What type of position are you doing? Chances are you are in a position that lends itself to falling asleep. For instance, the corpse pose (lying on your back) is a perfect example. Try meditating in a sitting position like the burmese or half-lotus pose. If you must lie on your back, then modify it to reduce your chances of falling asleep. For instance, you can bend your
