Exercise relieves anxiety and stress

Qigong for anxiety and stress

Physical exercise is known to reduce anxiety. If you are curious as to how this occurs, a study published by a group of psychologists at Princeton suggest it is a result of the ability of exercise to inhibit the affects of stress on the brain.

Now how much exercise do you need?

According to the Anxiety and Depression Society of America psychologists studying how exercise relieves anxiety and depression suggest that a 10-minute walk may be just as good as a 45-minute workout. Some studies show that exercise can work quickly to elevate depressed mood in many people. Although the effects may be temporary, they demonstrate that a brisk walk or other simple activity can deliver several hours of relief, similar to taking an aspirin for a headache.

Meditation can also be a form of exercise

A dynamic Qigong meditation can be a very relaxing form of exercise. Qigong (also spelled chi gong or chi kung) is an ancient Chinese health system of healing and energy medicine. Qigong is a system practiced for health maintenance, healing and increasing vitality. It is the art and science of using breathing techniques, gentle movement, and meditation to cleanse, strengthen, and circulate qi.  Regular Qigong practice leads to better health, vitality and a quiet mind.
