Passive observation is a state of “non-thinking”. When your mind is relaxed and in a “non- thinking state”, you are freely allowing source energy to flow through you. There is no resistance due to negative thoughts. You are shifting the energies of resistant thought to thought energies of allowance. Being in the state of “non-thinking” requires practice. The more you practice, the more you will bring this stillness into your life.
Passive observation can also be described as a state of non-judgement. When you are in a state of judgement, your mind is cluttered with all kinds of thoughts. Those thoughts have associated emotions or feelings with them. By and large the thoughts of judgement and the associated emotions are negative. Negative thoughts do not feel good and put you in a state of resistance. The negative thought, in essence contracts your mind and does not allow the higher source energy to flow through.
How do you passively observe?
Release your thoughts and then do one of two things: (1) notice the location of the resistance, keep your attention on it and relax into it; or (2) notice the location of the resistance and then place your focus on something that feels good. The sensation of feeling good will lower your resistance or relax you and thereby relax the area. Explore both techniques. You can use both at different times or you can master one technique and use it all the time.
Example
Let’s say you have a sensation in your body you normally associate with depression. That thought also has other negative thoughts and feelings associated with it. Release the thought that this is depression and just passively notice the sensation. Notice where it is in your body, then either: (1) actively relax that part of your body by breath or visualization; or (2) place your attention on something that feels good to you such as a picture that makes you laugh. This will relax you and allow higher source energy to flow through. When you open up to higher source energy, you begin to feel better. This is due to the fact that higher source energy vibrates at a higher level than that of the resistance or blockage.
This seems simple enough, however, you have to train your mind to be able to release thoughts. Making the jump from a head full of thoughts to no thoughts is quite a leap for most people. The best practice is to relax and allow passive observation to come into your reality.
If you are doing our Qigong meditation (or any meditation for that matter), practice the art of releasing the thought and returning your attention to your movements and breaths. Don’t get frustrated. It is an art. Just know that every time you practice you will get better and better at it. As you continue to practice and improve during meditation, you will gradually bring passive observation into your everyday life. You will begin to start using the skill without even thinking about it because you practiced it during meditation. Remember, this is a journey. Make it a happy one. Trust that you will eventually get to a point where the process comes naturally.
